What is Nuno Zori?
Colorful and comfortable.
Wear Zori, live happy!
Nuno zori is a variation of the traditional Japanese footwear “zori”, slip-on sandals typically made of straw, wood or leather. They are constructed like “flip-flop”; with an oblong base and a thong that keeps the foot in place. “Nuno” means cloth; “Nuno zori” means thonged sandals entirely made of cloth. They are very popular in Japan as house slippers.
The prototype of the Nuno Zori is found in the traditional Japanese footwear known as zori. The material used for zori is rice. Rice has a special meaning to the Japanese. The Japanese use not only the edible part of the rice plant, but also the stalks as materials for crafts. This embodies the Japanese spirit of "mottainai”.
Nuno zori, while inheriting this spirit of zori, have been improved to fit modern lifestyles and provide greater comfort. At Hachidori, we are constantly striving to improve the quality of our Nuno Zori by applying our own unique innovations to make them even more beautiful.
